About Think College NY!:

One of the goals for the Institute for Innovative Transition (IIT) is to expand inclusive postsecondary education opportunities for young adults with developmental disabilities in the Western New York region. We provide technical assistance to local programs, host an annual summer conference, facilitate regional partner groups, and share current policy intiatives with constituents across New York State. We continue to expand dissemination of resources in New York State.

In 2010, the IIT was funded by a five-year, $2.5 million grant under the new U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education Transition and Postsecondary Program for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID), to establish, implement, and sustain four TPSID model demonstration projects that will create new, and expand existing, inclusive postsecondary programs at the University of Rochester, Keuka College, Monroe Community College, and Roberts Wesleyan College.

Each higher education institution partners with a local school district or adult agency, including the Rochester City School District, Penn Yan Central School District, Monroe 1 BOCES, Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, Lifetime Assistance Inc., CP Rochester and Arc of Yates, with the support of New York State's Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

Currently, two major goals for all of the TPSID projects is to increase outcomes related to employment and focus on ensuring sustainability of program supports for students in future years.
