Who We Are

About the Institute for Innovative Transition

The Institute provides support to community members in the Finger Lakes Region and throughout New York State to effectively address transition issues for individuals with developmental disabilities, ages 12 and older. Community members include young adults with developmental disabilities, family members, local education institutions and agencies who provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Institute for Innovative Transition was launched in 2008 through a partnership of the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation, and the University of Rochester.  The Institute was made possible thanks to the generous support of the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation, an investment of over $2 million dollars. Additional funders include the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, the U.S. Department of Education, and Friends of the Warner School of Education.

The Institute is located at the Warner School of Education in LeChase Hall on the River Campus of the University of Rochester.
