The B. Thomas Golisano Foundation in partnership with the University of Rochester, founded the Institute in 2008. The foundation provided $2 million dollars of critical support to launch the Institute. The Institute is focused on improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families, as the individuals transition from school age to adulthood.
The Institute for Innovative Transition receives funding through grants, gifts and contracts. Funding is currently provided by the New York State Developmental Disability Planning Council, the U.S. Department of Education, The Ohio State University and Friends of the Warner School of Education.
